Crematorium Glasgow

Crematorium Glasgow

There are some projects which, though very enjoyable, also bring a number of challenges that need to be overcome. One of them was the construction of a new chapel building in one of Glasgow’s crematorium facilities. It was a fascinating process, but one that wasn’t without complications. The crematorium itself, in the city’s south-east, is close to the River Clyde, has been serving the Glasgow community since the 1950s, and is surrounded by impressive Gardens of Remembrance.

Clearly, the work would need to be carried out without disrupting the day to day running of the existing crematorium, and in a respectful and sensitive manner, so the decision was taken to work at night when the main building was closed. The project involved the use of a sandstone cladding with all relevant details included.

A breathable lime mortar was used, having been colour-matched to the existing property, clearly not an easy process when working under lights rather than during the day. The finished construction was highly impressive, striking to the eye and practical for all users. Everyone at AGM Stone was understandably proud to have achieved such a success despite the various issues that arose, and we are thankful to all our team members who agreed to work nights to get the job done.
